. according to reuters and afp, america's ambassador to libya has been killed in this violence. his name is chris stevens. this is reporting from reuters and afp. we are working with our folks to confirm it but ambassador chris stevens who just came into the post in may, he was brought into the post in tripoli in may killed yesterday in those attacks on our facilities in benghazi. the statdepartment confirmed last night the death of the state department official. at the time last night secretary of state hillary clinton said our thoughts and prayers are with his family. now reuters and afp say it is indeed the american ambassador to libya who perished in that attack on our embassy. >> and his name is john christopher stevens born in northern california in 1960. he came to libya for a second time in april of 2011 arriving on a cargo ship. the u.s. government sent him to rebel headquarters to serve as a special representative to the libyan national transitional council there. and all the violence really escalated and stemmed from the anti-muslim movie created in america and circulated on f

reuters at this point and so far, we have not gotten a comment from either the white house or from the state department. but if this is true, it represents a serious escalation in what is taking place in these protests we've seen break out both in egypt and in libya. reuters reporting that the u.s. ambassador to libya has been killed as well as three other staffers from the embassy there. all over the protests that broke out over a video that was produced by u.s. citizens that depict the prophet mohammed in very unflattering terms. that sparked protest both in cairo and in benghazi, libya. there is a serious situation. there is concern that the protests may spread to other countries. this is very much an ongoing situation. >> and just a little bit of background too on ambassador christopher stevens. we are looking at his picture right now. he had actually not been -- he had arrived in tripoli just a few months ago. he really hadn't been over there that long. any more information that we know about millennium and his service over there? -- about him and his service over there? >> i'm ju

add huge fire inside the compound. according to the reporting of reuters, police gunshots hurt five protesters. in india they tried to smash windows at the consulate and threw stones burning the american flag in the volatile region of kashmir and some called president obama a "terrorist." in yemen, home to the most dangerous branches of al qaeda, security forces fired warning shots into the air and tear gas at a crowd of about 2,000 protester whose tried to march on the u.s. embassy in the capital city. the chief fox correspondent is like in new york with the news. the countries are just some of the places where the protests are taking place. >>jonathan: the most violent scenes was in sudan, where protesters first attacked the german and british embassies before moving on to the u.s. embassy. they got into the compounds, raised the islamic flags and guarded fired warning shots in the air. we are now hearing that at least three demonstrators were killed during the riots and protests in sudan. this was also violence in tripoli, a northern city in lebanon, where kentucky fried chicken

reports that the u.s. ambassador to libya has been killed. reuters is reporting that ambassador chris stevens and three other embassy employees died in a rocket attack yesterday in benghazi, libya. the government isn't saying much about the attack, but secretary of state hillary clinton did announce late last night that a state department officer had been killed in libya. there have been violent protests in libya over a film an american made that was critical of the prophet muhammad. that film also sparked these demonstrations in egypt. this is the u.s. embassy in cairo where demonstrators scaled walls and tore down an american flag. most of the embassy staff had already left the compound. we aren't hearing of any deaths or serious injuries at that protest. we will monitor the situation in libya and bring you any updates that we receive. first, good morning to you. i'm eun yang. >> and good morning. i'm aaron gilchrist. >>> right now it is 6:00 a.m. the sun is soon to rise on another beautiful day around the washington region. a live look outside. temperatures 62 degrees here in

reuters reports gm is losing around $49,000 on each volt made. congress is back in session. topping the agenda for lawmakers is keeping the government in operation. as the september 30th deadline quickly approaches, the house is expected to approve a bill later this week that will keep the government running. as well as passage by the senate by the end of the month. reports say a threat of a government shutdown sparked by the tea party is looking less likely as upcoming elections draw closer. also on the legislative list, president obama's bill to improve the economy through job growth, including jobs for veterans returning from iraq and afghanistan. the campaign cash race is heating up. president obama was the big winner in august. contributions to the president and the democratic party totaled $114 million. that is the first time the president has outraised his contender. mitt romney and the republicans took in $111 million. romney's campaign currently has $168 million in cash on hand. president obama has not yet revealed the total amount his party has received. the u.s. is selling it
